Can VSS 2005 be configured to use the windows authentication of the
current user?

On the General tab of the ssadmin Tools, Options menu, select "Use network
name for automatic user logon".
It doesn't use windows authentication, it just lets you into the database if
your windows login name matches a VSS user name, and doesn't require a
password to be correctly entered. It may ask for one in some situations,
but you can enter anything or just hit OK. VSS shouldn't be used if you
don't trust the VSS users.
The only way to get some kind of authentication is to allow only VSS users
read/write access to the file share containing the database.
