Post subject: VSS 2005 LAN Service Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visual>sourcesafe (more info?)
I am trying to get the VSS LAN service to work. I've enabled it on my VSS
server in the VSS Adminstrator program on a Server 2003 R2. When I open a
project in VS2005, I get the message that the LAN service is unavailable.
The windows service on the server is started. If I use SSSeerviceTest to
check it out I get a return code of 00000005. The client is a Vista
workstation.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Are the two machines on the same subnet? VPN involved/firewalled
between them?
I get similar behavior when I work from home via VPN...Never
investigated, but I would also like to get it working - as far as I
know there's performance boost, yes?

There is no VPN involved. There is an internal router, but it's not
filtering any traffic.
