Post subject: Upgrading VSS 6 to VSS 2005 after installing Visual Studio 2008
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visual>sourcesafe (more info?)

For years I have been using the bundled Visual Source Safe 6 with my Visual
Studio 6 Enterprise.

I also use Visual Studio 2008 on the same PC, currently with VSS 6.

Having now bought VSS 2005, I want to install this, so that both Visual
Studio 6 and Visual Studio 2008 use VSS 2005 instead of VSS 6.

What steps should I go through to do this please?

Thanks
David

I had the same issue. IIRC, the procedure documented in the release notes
was to remove previous versions of VSS first before installing VSS 2005. I
ran Visual Studio 6 Enterprise setup in modify mode and removed VSS 6, then
installed VSS 2005.

Hi,

I think it is not necessary to uninstall VSS 6 before install VSS
2005. You can have both of them and choose VSS 2005 as your default
Source Control provider. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319318

Thanks.
