Post subject: Text shifts away from shapes when ungrouping diagram Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visio>general (more info?)
Am working with Visio diagrams previously pasted in Word, as what Word calls
"pictures." (IOW: not embedded, not linked, and no longer identified as
Visios. The evil deed is accomplished in Word by selecting Edit > Paste
Special, then selecting Picture from the list of formats.)
The problem arises at a later date when copying the "pictures" from Word and
pasting them into Visio to edit them. When ungrouping the diagrams (flow
charts) the text elements shift to the right of the shapes, and have to be
repositioned. As if this were not bad enough, a single line of text is often
broken into several elements.
After much fiddling to repair the damage, the diagrams can then be updated
-- and are again pasted into Word as pictures.
I am hoping someone will know of a way to edit such diagrams in Visio
without scattering and laboriously regathering the text.
I realize that this is an illegal sort of operation, and that the problem
would have been avoided by embedding or linking the Visios in Word in the
first place, but the damage is already done. (For the record, embedding
produced gigantic Word files, and handling linked external files was not
considered feasible.)

unfortunately, for every pro (small file) there is a con (you don't get to
bring it back and pretend it didn't happen),
