Post subject: Text Box Position Add to elertz
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>publisher>webdesign (more info?)

I am in the process of designing a web page for the non-profit agency where
I work. I have all of the content that I want on the pages (12). Everything
was going fine until I noticed that in the web page preview the text boxes
are all expanding past the amount of text leaving a ridiculous empty space
that looks bad. For example, if I type what I want into the text box and
then size it so that it is a perfect fit it looks great in Publisher. Then
when I go to see the Web Page Preview it is distorted...with an extra inch or
two of blank space under the text. I have already tried to give the font
middle alignment vertically. I've also tried different spacings. I've also
tried taking all formatting off and having it be just the font size and color
that I formatted. I've spent quite a bit of time working on this project in
this program and will be really disappointed if this problem cannot be
resolved and I have to use a different program. Someone please help me!

Sounds like you may NOT be using web friendly fonts and sizes.
Try using Verdana 10 pts on one of your text boxes and see if that makes a
deference
Using non integer sizes has an affect on the spacing (stick with 10 12 14
etc)
If that makes a difference and solves your dilemma then chose a font and
size that pleases you that is web friendly

What you see in publisher is not necessarily what you see on the web if you
are using certain fonts and sizes

I am using Verdana font size 10 and it unfortunately did not solve the
problem. I still have extra empty space at the bottom of the box.

Any other suggestions?

Try using the Design Checker under Tools to see if some errors have been
introduced.

Plus:

Which version of Publisher are you using?

Did you ever import or copy and paste the text from Word or some other
outside application?

When you said you cleared the formatting, did that mean that you cleared the
"Style"? Format > Style > Clear formatting.

Do you have the text box grouped with anything, and if so what happens if
you ungroup it?

Has the text been converted to an image in web page preview? Try to select
some of the text in the text box...if you can then it hasn't been converted.

Are you trying to wrap the text around an image?

Are you using indents, bulleted lists, or perhaps justified text? What
happens if you remove those things?

If you are using a border, what happens if you remove the border?

What happens if you switch to Arial font?

What happens if you copy all the text in one of your text boxes, and paste
it in NotePad > copy that text and paste it in a new Pub text box...or
replace the text in the original Pub text box?

Which browser are you using? If you go to View > Text size, what size is
your browser set at?

And as Spike requested, what is the URL of your site? It would be a whole
lot easier to help you troubleshoot the issues, if we could see it.
