Post subject: Sourcesafe 6.0 server move Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visual>sourcesafe (more info?)
Greetings,
I've been put in charge of a Sourcesafe 6.0 server that is currently
running on extremely old hardware (Compaq Proliant 2500, ~6 gigs of
total space, 1 gig system ram) and it's become extremely clear that
the server can't handle the workload any more. I have minimal
knowledge of Sourcesafe - I inherited the responsibility when someone
left the company - so I'm a bit worried about this move.
I found an article on TechNet last week that seems to indicate a data
move to a new server is fairly easy ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/176909
) but after moving all the data, I get errors on some files; invalid
network handle. Is this something I should be worried about? I
couldn't find any information online or in Sourcesafe's help file, but
since updating the network drivers I haven't gotten that error.
Are there any other pitfalls with a database move?
