From my side of the $$$ expensive software, Microsoft put in a function that
is broken. It would be nice if just once I could depend of a Microsoft
product to work with ALL the features that were programmed.

The problem with the rubber band box is that it takes a LOT of time to get a
square box. Where is the snap to grid feature?

Irfanview does not have that feature...that's why
I suggested FastStone Image Viewer which has
a *much* better crop tool.

Just for the record...are you aware that
Publisher has a Crop tool?

Open the picture in Publisher and left
click the Crop button on the Picture toolbar.

This will give you a pointer that resembles
a pantograph. Now...drag the edges of the
picture to create the shape you require.
Portions of the picture will be lost.

When you are satisfied with the shape...
right click the picture and choose...Save
As Picture...

If you need more info...search Publisher Help
for "Crop A Picture".

Yes, Crop actually works, but alass it doesn't "resize" the photo except by
taking parts away. When the cropped photo is saved, it is saved in the
cropped version, not the original. Saving a resized jpg only saves the
original un-resized format. This is one of the most important functions in
web publishing. It is rare indeed that one can scan a photo and the default
size works on a web site. As expected irfanview works perfectly with no
bugs detected.

I like it! This is a full featured program. Many thanks.

For simple and quick resizing...even in batches...

OK, go to the following link and download and
install: ImageResizer.exe
http://tinyurl.com/2meyw
or...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Then you can open any folder that contains
images and you will have an option to resize.
Just right click the selected image files and
choose Resize Pictures from the menu. You
can select one image or a whole group.

The program will place the resized copies in
the folder with your originals.
(Tip: *Never* overwrite your originals)

To insure that images in both portrait and
landscape orientation are resized to the
same dimensions...go to...Advanced...
and enter the largest number in both fields.
IOW...for 600x800...enter 800 in both fields.
