I am trying to resize a picture and it seems that nothing happens. I am
using pixel dimension. Even though I change to 150 pixels and save it. The
saved picture is 350 pixels. I have upgraded to sp3 what else can I do?

Have you tried to resize the photo in something like Picture Manager first?

Do you mean to say that the resize function of Publisher 2003 does not work?

The problem I have with irfanview is that my source picture is not square
and I need a 150 x 150 pixel shot for the web page. How do I crop it and/or
square it up?

=========================
1) Open an image in IrfanView...

2) Left click/Drag a box around the portion you
wish to crop. (If you watch the Selection at the
top left of the screen you can adjust the size of
the crop by placing your pointer on the edge of
the selection frame and dragging the double
arrow)

3) Go to...Edit / Crop Selection or type...Ctrl+Y.

4) Go to...File / Save As...
Choose a folder to save in.
Type a name for the new file.
Choose a format (.jpg).
Left click "Save".

And maybe the following free software
will be useful:

FastStone Image Viewer
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

To achieve a particular size without
distorting the image, you must "Crop"
a portion the size you need. Imagine
cutting out a particular size with scissors...

If you download the freeware FastStone
Image Viewer...and install it...you can
open your image in the program and go
to...Edit / Crop Board...

On the Crop Board screen, you will see
a button below the image with three dots
on it...if you click it you will see a menu
of sizes to choose from. If the size you
need is not present, you can add it. Then
click OK. Now you can left click/drag the
corners of the selection box to frame the
portion of the image you wish to keep.
And you can reposition the box by
dragging the 4 way arrow.

When you are happy with the selection ...
click the Crop button.

Now...File / save As...choose a save
location / enter a name / click...save.

No, she's saying that an image editor is the tool to use.

Part of the problem is that Publisher was never meant as a photo editing
program. We get a bit accustomed to doing things within a program and forget
that sometimes we are not using the right tool for the job.
