Post subject: Can't Open Files In Publisher XP Archived from groups: microsoft>public>publisher (more info?)
I have a customer who is still using Publisher XP. He can create a new file
and save it, but when he tries to open it, he gets an error message saying
the file has caused an error. He can only click OK or cancel. Neither of
these options do anything.
He can't open Publisher files that anyone else has created either. Other
people can open the files that he creates. The only thing he can do is
create them; he can't open any.
I have run Detect and Repair to see if that corrects the problem, which it
didn't. Do you have any suggestions as to how we can resolve this problem?

Hi Mary,
Thank you for your reply! Below are responses to your questions:
1. No, the customer isn't using Norton. We have AVG 7/5 Antivirus installed.
2. I will verify that the customers printer driver is correct. I haven't
made any changes to the printer, so I'll try that and let you know.
3. The only thing the error message says is, "this file has caused an
error." You can only click OK or Cancel. Clicking either one does nothing to
print the document.
I hope this information helps. I will let you know about the printer driver
and default printer.

Hi Mary,
Thank you for replying to my email. Below are answers to your questions:
1. Our customer is using AVG 7.5 Antivirus software.
2. I haven't tried changing the default printer. And, I'll make sure his
printer driver is up to date.
3. The error message says, the file has caused an error. He can only click
OK or cancel. Neither of these options
do anything.
I'll let you know what I find out about the printer. Have a great day!
