Hi Everyone,

I'm having a huge problem of backing up the VSS backup using the builtin
backup tool in the VSS admin page. It runs certain percentage and then it
takes long time and nothign happens (nearly 10 hours) So I was wondering if
there's any method to get a backup and then restore it to a another freshly
installed VSS machine. Please note I'm a newbie to VSS. Thanks in advance.

Hi Susantha,

Were you archiving the whole VSS DB? If so, it may take a little long.
The Archive utility allows you to choose to backup some projects. You
can choose only the projects you would like to backup to save time.

If you want to backup the whole DB, you may just copy the files in the
db directory over to another machine.

Thanks.

Hi Catherine,

Thank you for you kind advise. Actually that little long took alomost next
day morning and I've been advised to stop that backup and allow the suers to
contiune the work. So as you saying I'm now trying to move the VSS database
to a diffrent machine install the VSS over there and then redirect the path
for the database moved. By the way how complex is converting this database
to Visual Studio Team Suite?

Thank you,
Susantha

Hi Susantha,

>how complex is converting this database to Visual Studio Team Suite?

Do you mean binding the local files to the database moved? You can go
to Visual Studio menu File->Source Control->Change Source Control,
unbind the solution and then re-bind to the new VSS DB.

Thanks.
