Post subject: Help needed - Can't find local copies of my webs.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>frontpage>client (more info?)

When I try to open a web from the recent Web Sites list in FrontPage I get
an error message

Server error: The URL "C:\...\My Documents\My Web Sites|..." is not
contained within a Windows SharePoint Services site.

I get the same if I try to find My Webs via Windows Explorer!

Both of these used to work fine.

I don't recall installing SharePoint Services, however I did recently
install XP SP 3. Is this part of XP SP 3?

How can I undo this, or restore local copies of my webs?

TIA.

Chris.

P.S. I can see my webs via My Network Places, but haven't yet found a way
of editing them.

Can I copy these to my PC to a Windows SharePoint Services site, and edit
these copies via FrontPage?

If so how do I set up a Windows SharePoint Services site then copy from MNP
to this?

Try this;

Open FP
File | Open Web/Site

if you're using a disc-based web *enter*;

C:\My Documents\My Websites\nameofyourweb (path will be wherever your
disc-base web is stored)

if you're using server based web on your machine *enter*:

http://localhost/nameofyourweb

hth

Thanks Rob.

This is how I used to open and edit my web, but co-incident with the error
message re WSS all local copies of files disappeared. I have now copied
them back from the server, but am still mystified as to why I got the
message - I'm told WSS can only be installed on servers, and why my local
copies of my webs disappeared.
