Printing the grid was a long awaited featured that appeared in Visio 2003.
For previous versions of Visio, the work around was to create a background
page with the appropriate lines.

The normal method for creating the pattern is to
1) drop a vertical (or horizontal) line and repeated as often as required.
(do not worry about the length or placement)
2) select all the lines and align the ends so they are all parallel
3) Distribute the lines so thay are evenly spaced.
4) group the lines and then stretch and move the shape so that it covers the
area.
5) This can be repeated for the other direction or the group duplicated and
rotated ninety degrees.

I have Visio 2003 Pro and have the option to print gridlines but they do not
print out completely with some lines missing. I have tried changing the grid
spacing and line thicknes but it seems to be random for each drawing I try. I
thought it might be the print driver but I have updated this. Also, I have
tried printing to HPLJ4200,4300 and 5500 but the problem is the same.
