Post subject: Disable Automatic Check out in Visual Studio Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visual>sourcesafe (more info?)
In Visual Studio 2005 when making any changes to the code it
automatically checks out the file. Is there any way that this can be
changed so that you have to manually checkout the file?

In Visual Studio 2005, check out the Tools, Options, Source Control,
Environment options.
