Post subject: Can't Check In
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>visual>sourcesafe (more info?)

I have a project with a solution file that won't check in.
From VSS Explorer I right-click on the checked out file
and the context menu's items for checking in and undo
checkout are disabled. I searched by status and found
about 30 like this, so I right-click each of them, some
are source files, and I don't get option to check in. The
toolbar has the items check out. The same thing happens
if I open the project in Visual Studio, the options are
grayed out for those files. The solution file that led me to
this problem is a Visual Studio 8.0 solution I was trying to
upgrade for 2008, but it says I must check it in before I can
upgrade it, so I can't get to the solution I need to. The files
DO exist on disk and I ran analyze without any errors. I
rebooted my computer without any change.

I can check in and out other files, and I can even Get Latest
Version on the problem files. I'm trying to avoid deleting
and re-adding the files for historical purposes.

Any advise or ideas?

Thanks,

Steven

This line should read: The toolbar has the same
problem as the context menu. All check in and
undo checkout buttons are disabled.

In additin, I wanted to add my user DOES have
read/write previlages.

Were they possibly checked out on a different computer? There should be a
User and Check Out Folder column in VSS Explorer. The checkout folder will
look like "[computername]c:\somefolder" if the file was checked out on a
different computer, but just "c:\somefolder" if checked out on the current
computer.
