I need to compare two VISIO document and list out the differences between the
two. I did not find any Out of the Box (OOTB) capability in VISIO to do
this. Are you aware of any 3rd party OOTB tools that will provide this
capability?

One alternative is to save both as .vdx (xml) files and then use a text
compare tool.

My text compare program of choice is Word and it's compare documents
function.

which can do document/page/shape compare.
Comparing within Visio is very different to comparing in Excel and
Word, you could have two Visio documents that look and act identically
but so different internally that any sensible comparision was next to
impossible.

Hi,
I'm using Visio 2003 and am facing the same problem as Lee Ann.
I saved both the documents in vdx format and then attempted to compare the
same using the "Compare and Merge" functionality in Word. While it shows me
what changes have occurred it is not possible to interpret what these changes
are. Word displays gibberish with some readable text at the beginning which
was the file properties. Is there any way to decipher what is displayed and
what has changed?

I use a rather verbose version of a shapesheet dump I created and then do a
similar document compare. I have had issues with working with clients who
insist that they never changed the stencil. Being able to quote the changes
or at least have the peace of mind of knowing what was changed is a big
asset.
One of these days, I will make the verbose shapesheet dump publicly
available, but for now it is held together with bailing wire and is not
mature enough to leave the house.
