Post subject: first save in a Word editing session Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>drawing>graphics (more info?)
When I had Office Professional 2003 installed on my XP box, I noticed
that on the first save of a document in any given session, there would be
an animated effect like a zooming rectangle that would collapse into the
spot on the status bar reserved for the background save icon. This would
only happen once in any Word session; thereafter, there was no visual cue
that a save was taking place.
I've recently moved to a new computer with 64-bit Vista and have installed
the same Office Professional 2003 suite. There is no longer any visual cue
when doing the first save in a Word session.
I guess what I'm wondering is, is there a setting in Word that controls
this feature or is it just an artifact of the video hardware/software on
the two different computers?
I've looked at animation and zoom in help but I can't find anything that
would appear to control the behavior I'm describing.

Well, there are some animation settings in Word (Tools | Options | General),
but my experience with anything like that on the status bar (such as the
printing animation) is that you see it only if it takes an appreciable time.
It may be that your new system is so much faster that the Save operation
happens faster than Word can display it.

I never thought of that but yes, you're right - that could be the reason.
The new machine is a dual-core with 8 gig of ram running 64-bit Vista, so I
would expect things to be a little peppier than they were on the old
machine...
