I have graph paper automatically coming up when I opern Word. How do I get
rid of this?

Hi Dude53,

See if using Alt, V, G
turns off the background document gridline display.

The problem is: I'm using a Dutch version which means that the tab names are in ...Dutch but I can try.
I'm working in the 2007 version and it has a tab, probably called 'Image'(anyway it's the last of the standard tabs). In the subdivision 'Hide/Show', there is a case you can tick off, called 'graphs' (my translation). Try to tick on and off and look at the result.

It happens because display gridlines is on. How to do and undo that
specifically depends on the Word version.

With Word2007 the basic toggle is on the View tab in the Show\Hide group.
The primary control is on the Page Layout tab in the Arrange Group>Align
menu control "Grid Setting."
