third party tool to manage and synch with Outlook?

Hi there,
I am looking for a slim third party application to manage my contacts from
Outlook.
This tool should possibly have the following abilities:
- easy to handle (outlook contacts appear very clumbsy to me)
- two way synchronisation with contacts in Outlook
- a transparent* database holding the data for contacts

*a transparent database in this case means the database is directly editable
without exporting first and then importing again (eg Excel or even some text
editor)

Tips and feedback are most welcome.
