Something is changing my "pop" e-mail account from pop.att.yahoo.com to
"localhost". I have tried everything I know to get rid of what must be
malicious code.
Has anyone seen this before, and do you know how to get rid of it? Thank you
very much.

It's your antivirus software that's doing it. If it's breaking your
Yahoo mail then you can stop it by turning off the e-mail scanning in
your antivirus software.

Glad to help. Were you using Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus by any chance?

Just for the record...I never thought to look at that when I had NIS
2007, but I just checked my email setting in NIS 2008 and it doesn't
change them anymore.
