Word 2007 trickier - the Styles panel doesn't show table styles (in mine, at
least), and I have not found any option to turn them on. There is another
way:
- At bottom of Styles panel, click "Manage Styles" button (small picture)
- Make sure "Show recommended styles only" is turned off (want to see all
styles)
- Find & select your table style in "Select a style to edit" box
- Below box, click "Modify..." button
From there, similar to Word 2003, as written by Challa Prabhu.

FWIW, I find that in a new Blank Document based on default Normal.dotm, the
Styles panel *does* show all the table styles (though I'd really prefer it
didn't). I've used Manage Styles to change this in other templates, but I
try to keep Normal as pristine as possible so I know what "default" is.

Hi Suzanne,
Hmmm. Something's different.
Ahh, are you referring to using the 'Show Styles(Classic Gallery)' choice added to the QAT in this case rather than the Styles pane?
When I start Word 2007 in safe mode or if I rename Normal.dotM and restart Word to create a new one I don't have any table styles
listed in the Styles Pane.
In Table Tools=>Design=>Table Styles, 98 'themed' table styles plus Table grid (classic) show there, while on the Quick Access
Toolbar if the Show Styles (classic) drop down has been added to the QAT, the styles from both of the locations, above, show there.
From Home=>Styles=>Style Launcher=>[Manage Styles] the 35 legacy/classic (prior version) Table styles show as 'Hide until used' and
can't be selected to 'show', even with 'Select All'=>'Show (which makes them a bit tough to 'use'0 while the themed ones that show
in the Table Styles gallery can't be set to 'hide'. Perhaps with a macro. Perhaps I should have had coffee before looking at this
<g>.
[FWIW, the original Feb 2007 thread was asking how to set a default table style and to turn off [ ] Allow row to break across
pages' so it was no longer the default]

Yes, I guess you're right that it's only in the Styles dropdown. I haven't
even tried to do much with style visibility in Word 2007; I'm still
struggling with it in Word 2003. I'm working in some documents where, even
if you check the box for "Show Headings 1-3," they aren't displayed unless
you explicitly check them. And I could have sworn there was an option to
display styles after they'd been used if you had "Styles in use" selected
(but I guess I'm thinking of 2007, where there is also the option to show
the next heading level after you use a given one). I find it extremely
frustrating to try to clear out unused styles and then find all the styles I
want unavailable as well! I guess I'm just not thinking clearly about what I
clear out.
