When opening an excel file, i can click on any cell. Once I click on another
cell the cursor is locked on "selecting". I cannot use any key or function
on the keyboard nor can i access the menu bar. Any movements moves the
selection area following the mouse with the original cell as the "base".

We are using excel 2003.

I know you said you can't use any other key, but I'm just checking that you
have indeed tried F8 which would put you into a mode such as you describe?

Hi ya'll. I too have the same problem and I tried the F8 key but with no
success...am I missing something? I'm using 2003 version.

I'm having the same problem when opening Excel 2003. F8 or <shift>f8 does
NOT cancel the continuous extend mode. Since Shiwaro hasn't gotten a
response in about a year this may not be the forum for a solution...8(
