Post subject: Can't edit Mail Recipient (as Attachment) toolbar button. Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>mail (more info?)
When I edit the "M&ail Recipient (as Attachment)..." button to include
a hyperlink to an email address, it loses the attachment. When I
remove the hyperlink, the attachment comes back. How can I edit the
hyperlink to add the email address without losing the attachment?
To explain it a bit better, this is what happens step-by-step:
File > Send to > Mail Recipient (as Attachment). I also have this as
a button on my toolbar which is the one I'm using.
When that opens, it gives me a new Outlook email with the document I
was in attached. This works great but now I want the TO: field
already filled in with the recipient's e-mail address since this will
be the only person ever getting this email.
Then I edit the hyperlink in MS Word:
Go to Tools > Customize Toolbars > a window opens up, I click on the
Mail recipient (as Attached) toolbar button. Click on Modify
Selection > Edit Hyperlink > Open. A new window opens. Under E-mail
address I put in the person's email. Then I click Okay, then Close.
I click on the Mail recipient (as Attachment) button, the fields are
all filled and but now, the attachment is no longer there.
How do I edit the Mail recipient (as Attachment) button without losing
the attachment?

See the article "How to send an email from Word using VBA" at:
create a macro that includes in the code the email address of the person to
whom you will regularly send the documents and put a button for that macro
on a toolbar.

This helps me somewhat. However, it doesn't answer the question as to why
it's not working. If the option is there, why isn't it working? Is there a
patch to fix this issue? It would be much easier to do what I'm asking as
opposed to the Routing Slip method. The problem with the Routing Slip method
is the "Routing" part. I just one it to go one way, not round trip. I know
there's a way to bypass it, but it's way too much information for the
end-user.
Thanks.

I had to find a machine with Word 2003 to be able to try the steps that you
mention. When in the Assign Hyperlink: Open dialog, you enter an email
address in the Address control, you are replacing the link to the attached
document with a link to the email address of the person to whom you wanted
to sent the document. As a result, when you then click on the button, so
modified, it starts a new email message to that person.
If you regulary want to send documents to the same person, you should put a
button onto the toolbar that runs a macro containing the code from either of
the methods discussed in the article to which I referred you.
