When I tried to convert my Powerpoint slide to a .jpeg file (like I often do)
when I view the jpeg the whole picture is black with only a small block on
the top left hand corner showing a piece of my slide. I have done dozens
before and never had a problem, but now it happens with every slide I try. I
tried compressing the slide, the pictures on the slide etc but to no avail.
Please Help!!

What version of PowerPoint and if it's 2007, have you applied SP1 since you last
exported images?
What resolution are the images and how are you exporting them?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, sorry for the delay but the link to your answer was
blank but I eventually found it while searching the microsoft website (again).
1. I have Powerpoint version 2007
2. Sorry for my ignorance but what is SP1?
3. The images are varying sizes, I have even tried just a plain slide with
a clipart image and it does the same thing.
I am making invitations which I print at a in internet photo shop so what I
usually do is change the powerpoint slide size to 10x15 cm, add pics, wordart
etc and then once I am done I convert this to Jpeg by going file, save as and
at the bottom instead of powerpoint changing the file type to jpeg. I have
been doing it this way for nearly a year now. Before I could do this I
remember changing some settings (which I found instructions for on the
microsoft site) by going file, run and then typing in what the instructions
said, but I can't find it again. I don't know if it has maybe lost that
setting or something.
Please help, thanking you in advance.

Hi there,
Just looked up what SP1 is - no I don't think I downloaded SP1, except if
Microsoft did it automatically. I found the information I used to make the
change, but it is still the way I changed it, i.e. 300 pixels (12c) I think,
so that's not the problem.
It still does the same thing, whole picture black except for a little block
on the left hand top corner - its driving me mad!!

Service Pack 1 ... if you have automatic updates enabled, you probably got this
automatically.
Click the office button, click Powerpoint Options, click Resources, then About to see
what version you've got. If you have SP1 applied, "SP1" should appear in the first
line of information.

Without knowing what you changed, it's hard to say what to do about it.
But this sounds very much like a known bug in PPT, especially if what you did was to
change the registry to get higher resolution JPG exports.

Hi there,
I checked my version but I don't see anything about SP1 - it only says
Powerpoint 2007 MSO - I checked my version of Windows and that says Service
Pack 2.
You are right about what I did (long ago) - I did change the registry so
that I could get better quality pictures.
Would I be able to fix this?
Thanks very much for your help.

I'd start by changing the registry setting back to 96 ... with luck, that will stop the
problem.
