Post subject: How do I convert a slide show file to a regular PowerPoint file. Archived from groups: microsoft>public>powerpoint (more info?)
I downloaded a PowerPoint file from the school's blackboard site and am
unable to do anything but view as a slide show using my full screen.
Is it possible to convert so that I can print handouts?

Which version of PowerPoint are you using? It could be as easy as renaming
the file from .pps to.ppt in windows Explorer.

Dear aligned.
From Windows Explorer, right click on the file and select New.

Rename your PowerPoint file. Change the .pps to .ppt.

In addition to renaming the file, you can also open PowerPoint, then use
File | Open and navigate to the slideshow (*.pps) file you downloaded.
Just wanted to mention this because it's especially important for PPT 2007.
You can also open PPT 2007 slideshow (*.PPSX) files this way -- but you
cannot just rename those.

Start PowerPoint, choose File, Open; browse to the downloaded file and open it.
The other suggestions about renaming will work too, for all versions up to and
including PPT 2007. They may not work in 2007. File, open will. In allovem.
