In Word 2007 Version ...I inserted a map image from pdf format into my word
document. I then inserted the shape, arrow over the pdf image. There appears
to be a glitch that erroneously displays the arrow on all the following pages
within my multi page document. It is behaving like a watermark that cannot be
removed or changed. How do we correct this glitch.

It sounds like the cursor was in the header or footer when you inserted the
arrow. Because the arrow is anchored there, it repeats on every page (see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/AnchorToHeader.htm).

The solution is to reopen the header area, click on the arrow, and cut it to the
clipboard; then close the header area, click in the same paragraph that contains
the image, and paste the arrow there. Adjust its position as necessary.
