Post subject: XP pro Outlook 07 crash Archived from groups: microsoft>public>outlook>installation (more info?)
Background: MS office Pro Ver: 12.0.6215.1000
XP pro SP2
Outlook connector for my Hotmail and other webmail
AVG for anti-virus
NOT an acer
Home built
When attempting to open outlook it immidiately shuts down and sends the
error report. What I've noticed is that it gets to about 83% on the send and
receive before shutting down. I have run the office diagnostic tool, searched
for updates, searched the knowledge base, and tried to google info from event
viewer with no leads.

Is AVG scanning email? If so, this is a No-No. Uninstall AVG, do a
re-install WITHOUT the email scanning module and see if the problem
persists.

I disabled the AVG and that did nothing. I did download msvcr80.dll and put
it in the system32 folder which did nothing, however when I downloaded and
installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86), and
started outlook again, it didn't crash. I just did this less than one min ago
and received an email that this post had been answered. I don't know how long
it will last.
After looking at the event viewer, I noticed that there are a whole lot of
errors with .net frameworks. It appears that I have 3.0 installed though and
there were no errors concerning that, however all of the updates for earlier
versions failed. (from windows update)
What could be happening?

The only time I had that happen, it involved .NET 1.0. Updates and SP1 (for
..NET 1.0) wouldn't install. It turns out that the original installation of
1.0 was damaged and this prevented any updates from installing. Further,
the damaged installation wouldn't un-install. I had to get the Windows
Installer Cleanup Utility, remove .NET 1.0, and reinstall it. SP1 and
updates would install after that.

We recommend that you do not use this utility with 2007 Office system products.
Does this mean I should stay away, or just not use it on Office products.
Will it let me select only .net frameworks?

It means don't use it on Office 2007; you'll be using it on .NET if anything
at all. The utility allows you to select and remove anything that was
installed with the Windows Installer.
