I'm suddenly having a problem that when I'm in the middle of working on a
Word document, the screen quickly fades to gray and I cannot re-enter the
document without closing word (which then gives me the message that Word is
Not Responding), then starting over. Why is this happening? The two documents
are ones that were sent to me by a colleague yesterday for editing. Is there
a chance there's something wrong with her documents?

From your description, you have Word 2007?
Try opening the original document using the Open and Repair option to see if
it finds a problem with the documents.

Actually, I have 2003. but I did what your suggested and so far, so good. It
was happening every few minutes this morning, and now I've gone almost and
hour with no problem. Thank you! I was unaware of that feature, having not
had any problems with my Office programs before. (Except those that were
operator-generated!)
