How do I get a normal view as default, the way it used to be. It is very
disturbing to see all the arrows and symbols while I work.

Wish I knew - I've just had the earlier (poor) view replaced with a new, worse one.

You can see this post that's nearly a year old and yet you cannot see the
answers that were posted at the time? Perhaps you should move to a better
portal. In any case, if what you're complaining of is actually the same as
the original poster, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm. But I suspect you're
talking about the Word 2007 UI rather than nonprinting characters.
