Post subject: Word caption numbering error Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>numbering (more info?)
Hi
I have a large word document.
At chapter 5, the caption numbering has gone wrong.
Chapters are formatted as Heading 1.
The figure and table captions come up as 1.1 1.2 etc, instead of 5.1 5.2 etc
Use chapter number is checked.
Code is { STYLEREF 1 \s }.{ SEQ Table \* ARABIC \s 1 }
Any ideas as to how to correct this without having to redo the document.

Have you tried updating the captions, for example by switching to Print
Preview and back?
Also, note that if you are tracking changes, that would explain why caption
numbering is not correct. Actually, the only way to ensure that numbering
(of any kind) displays correctly is to accept all changes and then turn off
track changes.

I thank you for your reply. Unfortunitly it didn't work. for some reason I
did have "track changes" turned on. But with them off the items needed still
do not show up in the "cross referance" dialog as needed.
