Post subject: Word 2007 can't open most files
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>application>errors (more info?)

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. When I try and open a Word 97-2003 file Word
2007 hangs (it's document pane is light blue rather than white for a long
time then restarts itself, opening on a blank document). It may be that the
same would happen with a Word 2007 document, I don't save to that format so I
don't know.

When it restarts it tells me that Word has experienced a problem and that I
need to run Microsoft Update. However, if I run Microsoft Update it tells me
that I have all the current downloads for my Microsoft Products.

When I booted for the first time today, Kaspersky Internet Security told me
that dwwin.exe had been altered. Has there been some kind of update that's
caused this problem? And if so, can anyone tell me how to fix it (I have a
report to write for Monday, so any help much appreciated).

I've copied the Event Viewer logs below, for reference.

Thanks

Karl

comouters across my network. HELP! (Microsoft). All machines are up to date
with all automatic updates applied as of 8/18/2008

Hi Rob,

This fixed it for me.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;940791

Don't know about applying it many machines though - that's a real drag.
Maybe Microsoft has come up with a better fix in the last few days.

Cheers

Karl
