Please be more specific. How has it stopped working? What is it doing or not
doing? What messages do you get?

Hi Ted,
Spell checker sin't picking up any spelling error, either as yoy type, i.e.
sqiggle red line, or when you click on spellcheck, it is however doing
grammer. But in Outlook which is using word for editing it word fine.
Doesn't make sense.

Before getting to involved have you tried the following?
The style for those paragraphs/words probably has the Do Not Check Spelling
attribute turned on.
In 2003 and prior:
1. Select all (Ctrl+A to select the whole document).
2. Double click on the language button at the bottom of the Word window (or
Tools, Language, Set Language).
3. Select Language required in top section of the dialog box.
4. Clear the "Do Not Check Spelling or Grammar" check box. While here also
clear the "Detect language automatically" if this is checked.
5. OK.
The document should now be open to spelling and grammar checking.
In Word 2007, Review tab, Proofing group, Thesaurus, Set Language.
Spell check is a formatting attribute of the text. If you copy formatted
text from another document then the formatting will come with it and if that
include the no proofing option, then that's what you get. You need to either
re-apply the proofing parameter (as described above) or use Paste Special
Unformatted Text so that the formatting of the destination is adopted.
Also see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/MasterSpellCheck.htm.
Hope this helps

I am experiencing the same problem. I have used this version of word since
last April - no problem. Then yesterday, spellcheck just stopped working. I
ran diagnostics, I checked 'proof' I did what you said above...nothing
worked.

i had success with the following:
Start Regedit and goto the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing
Tools\1.0\Override\en-US
I had 2 entries (DLL and LEX) pointing to non-existing files.
deleted these to DLL and LEX.
After this change all Spell Checking worked normal again.
Hopes this helps you as well
