I have read a number of threads looking for an answer to this problem. I am
running Vista Home Edition, Word 2007, Norton 360. When I try to save or
save on exit, I get an error and Word stops working. When I restart Word,
the file is recovered, but I still can't save it. I have removed my HP
printer, I have deleted the normal.dotm and I have deleted the Word DataKey.
I have alot of years working with Word and I am sure I have done everything
right.

Have you run Word 2007 Diagnostics?
Have you installed an alternative local printer driver and set it as Windows
Default?
What is Norton 360? I shudder at anything Norton (Symantec).
Have you been through the FAQ below which includes closing problems?

Word 2007 Diagnostics reports everything normal.
I have followed all of the items listed on the FAQ's you indcated.
I have installed an old Espon printer as the Windows default.
The add-in that I have are:
Google Desktop Addin
It is still crashing.
I appreciate your help.

Post subject: Re: Word 2007 File Save & Exit Error [Login to view extended thread Info.] Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)
I had a problem with my user id, so I had to create a new one. After your
last suggestions, I tried running Word in Safe Mode, it worked fine. I
remember reading something about add-ins causing some problems, so I went
into Word in normal mode. I tried to remove the 3 add-ins, but I could only
remove 1 add-in, Google Desktop Add-in. The other 2 add-ins work Microsoft
add-ins, one sending to Bluetooth and the other dealing with Outlook. I
restarted Word and I could save files and it seemed to work normally. I
tried several times, each time it worked. I put the Google Desktop Add-in
back in and it still worked. I gave the laptop back to my daughter and
thought I had solved the problem.
My daughter has had same problem intermittently. It did not seem to matter
if the Google Desktop Add-in was present or not. Last night she wrote a
letter and could not save it, due to the same problem. She copied the letter
to an email, just to protect it. I suggested we connect to the HP printer,
let it reinstall the drivers and print the letters, since she had to have a
paper copy. She got a error of “Spooler Subsystem App stopped working and
closed” and could not print. Her laptop came with MS Works, so we opened MS
Work (I have very little experience with Works and had never seen this
version), copied the document and tried to save. I saw an option to save in
Work 2003 format, which is the format we have always used with Word 2007. I
tried to save the document using MS Word with the 2003 format and got the
same error.
We are considering the following:
Re-installing Word 2007
Re-uninstalling the HP drivers.
Trying to save using the Word 2007 default standard.
Any suggestions? Do I need to have it serviced, even though I doubt anyone
else could do better, unless they know exactly what the problem is and have a
fix?
