Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>application>errors (more info?)

Hello,

All of a sudden, I'm having problems opening Word files (files created using
2003 and 2007). The file names are changing and the first two characters of
the file name are replaced with "~$". When I click on the file to open it, it
says "The Office Open XML file (file name) cannot be opened because there are
problems with the contents.

When I click OK, it says "Word ford unreadable content in (file name). Do
you want to recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of
this document, click Yes."

When I click Yes, it goes back to "The Office Open XML file..."

Does anybody have a fix for this??

Thanks.

The file you are trying to open is the "owner" file, not the document
itself. See “Description of how Word creates temporary files” at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632

Hi,

If necessary, you may try Advanced Word Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/awr/ This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Word documents. Hope this is useful.
