I am having this same problem. I have tried the FAQ's; but am not really
sure what I am looking for. How can I go about looking for where these
add-ins may be located and how do I determine that they are corrupt? I can
open in safe mode but a re-install does no correct the problem.

This worked for me. I had installed a trial version of the full Adobe
Acrobat and got one use out of word before it crashed. Changing the
normal.dot helped, although it appears I lost my default settings, like font,
etc. But so happy to be able to use Word again!
Thanks,

Hi,

If the files are corrupt, I think you can try a utility called
Advanced Word Repair to repair your Word document. It works rather
well for my corrupt Word documents. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/awr/
Hope this is useful.

You can determine if it is add-ins by removing them and adding them back one
at a time testing for the problem as you go.

But have you tested in Safe Mode to ensure that Word is OK first? Did you
rename normal.dot?

See how to find add-ins

Hi,

If the files are corrupt, I think you can try a utility called
Advanced Word Repair to repair your Word document. It works rather
well for my corrupt Word documents. Its web address is
http://www.datanumen.com/awr/
Hope this is useful.

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

I had the same problem. For me, it seems the SP3 install would corrupt my
normal.dot file. Once I renamed my normal.dot file (letting Word recreate it)
everything went back to 'normal'. Heh heh.
