Just wanted to let you know that a complete uninstall and reinstall
didn't fix our problem.

The only thing that changed prior to this strange behaviour was the
upgrade to a Matrox G550 PCI graphics card with 2 flat screens. The odd
thing is I too had the same upgrade to the same type of Dell computer.

Its very strange indeed!

Hi

I read your post today as I had the same problem with Excel 2003. I could refresh the query pivot but was unable to edit the query.

I found out how to replicate this problem.

It occurs when you do a "save as" on the spreadsheet - it seems like something is missing when you do the save as.

If you copy the spreadsheet in windows explorer and then rename it the links still work and you can still edit the query afterwards.

Hope this helps

Phil

Hi Bill,
Just wanted to update you on this problem.

I managed to break my installation of Excel too. I was using a
spreadsheet that has multiple sheets, each with there own SQL being
brought in. I was going thru each sheet editing the SQL when suddenly MS
Query stopped working. It stayed minimized and wouldn't respond.

Once I forced it to quit I searched for MSQRY32.EXE and launched it
without any problems. Once its open I can successfully edit my queries
from Excel. If I don't run MSQRY32.EXE first it won't work.

Its a very strange problem Smile

Post subject: Microsoft Query Broken? Add to elertz [Login to view extended thread Info.]

Hello - I'm having the exact same problem. I start in Excel with a brand new blank workbook, and choose Data - Import External Data - New Database Query - then in my taskbar Microsoft Query shows, but I cannot activate it. Going to Task Manager and choosing Switch To causes Microsoft Query to come to the front on my screen, but everything is grayed out and cannot be selected.

HELP!!!
