I have a user with several thousand documents created in the DOS version of
WordStar. Because of weird formatting issues when using the Office
converters, he opens these in Quick View Plus, copies out the text, and
pastes it into Word. However, he's switching to Vista, and QVP does not
work on Vista.

Does anyone have recommendations for an app that will open these documents
for viewing and copying out text? There seem to be many of them out there,
and I'm hoping to narrow down the choices without trying them all. Thanks!

The discontinued Microsoft WordStar to Word converter, which was removed
from
the supplied converters, is still available from their FTP server.

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/wdsupcnv.exe

I hope this is not the converter that you have tried that gives
unsatisfactory results.

Thanks, Tom and Graham, I'll give that a try. I'm not sure if that's the
one he got unsatisfactory results from or not, but it's the best we've got
right now either way.

FYI, despite what their web site says, Quick View Plus (current version)
does seem to work as expected in Vista, and their sales department says a
new version supporting Vista and Office 2007 is in the works for sometime
this year.

Wow, talk about coincidences! I came here to ask that very same
question. Thanks Tom F!

Nope, not going to Vista. Why?
Simple: It offers me nothing I need or
even want that I don't already have.
So, why switch? NOT gonna happen.

I hope you took note of Graham Mayor's post as well. The registry patches he
has on his site do make it easier to install the converter.

I would like to install wdsupcnv.exe but am using Vista and Office 2007, and
I am not sure where to put the files -- the program asks me to pick a folder.
I tried the /CONVERT folder in /OFFICE12 but the installation isn't accepted.

Download the converter from my web site - instructions are provided on the
downloads page and there is a registry patch to make it work.
