Hi there,
I'm working on a template in which I want the first heading looks like this:
Chapter 5
TITLE OF CHAPTER
The [Chapter 5] part is the grey (field) part. I want the TITLE OF CHAPTER
part to automatically show on the second line, not on the first line next to
the field. The only way I know of doing this is by clicking Heading
1>Modify>Numbering>Customize>Outline Numbered List> Text Position: Tab Space
After __ cm. I have set the tab space to 25 cm, which is just enough to move
the title to the second line.
My problem: the first letter, T, does not move - it stays at the end of the
first line, and no matter how many tab spaces i put, it just moves over to
the right. It ends up looking like this:
Chapter 5 T
ITLE OF CHAPTER
How do I move the T over to the second line?
I would greatly appreciate any help!!!

I forgot to add that I am using Word 2003 Pro.
Thanks!

This approach, as you've found, Just Won't Work. There are two ways to
handle this:
1. Change the "Follow number with" setting from "Tab character" to "Nothing"
and manually insert a line break after the number before you type the title.
2. Use two completely independent styles, one for the numbering and one for
the title. See
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm#UnnumberedHeadings, which
gives some examples and explains how this can be handled in the TOC. This
allows you to format your title style as All Caps while leaving the
numbering lowercase, for example.
