Post subject: Strange Word behavior. Please advise. Archived from groups: microsoft>public>word>application>errors (more info?)
When I open an existing document, the text appears and then disappears. The
document remains blank for long seconds. When the text reappears, the
Window's top bar is greyed, as if it is not the "active" document. I can get
the "active" bar after diminishing and then restoring the document.
What might be causing this behavior, and what, if anything, can I or should
I do about it?

Are you suggesting that my AV program might be causing this? I've used AV
and Word for many years, and this behavior has only begun recently. So I
wonder...

It is the sort of problem that we see frequently reported, the principal
culprit being the Office Plug-in option in Norton Anti Virus. You may get a
pointer by looking at the Task Manager to see if what's using CPU cycles
(other than Word) during the blank period.

Thnaks for the tip. I don't use Norton. I use Computer Associates. I don't
see any similar plug-in here. But I will check out the Task Manager.
