Sell check does not recognize obvios misspellings. How do I reset the
dictionary or even change the dicionary? Or is the dictionary the problem?

What Word version and OS are you using?
A possible solution is descibed below.
The style for those paragraphs/words probably has the Do Not Check Spelling
attribute turned on.
In 2003 and prior:
1. Select all (Ctrl+A to select the whole document).
2. Double click on the language button at the bottom of the Word window (or
Tools, Language, Set Language).
3. Select Language required in top section of the dialog box.
4. Clear the "Do Not Check Spelling or Grammar" check box. While here also
clear the "Detect language automatically" if this is checked.
5. OK.
The document should now be open to spelling and grammar checking.
In Word 2007, Review tab, Proofing group, Thesaurus, Set Language.

The problem makes me wonder if it is a corrupt dictionary.
On a new page I type the phrase:
"This is the dday tat will change the future."
Then I do a spell check and it finds nothing.

It is very unusual for the dictionary to get corrupted.
If the errors are specific "words" have you checked your dictionary that
these errors you are seeing have not been accidentally added to your personal
dictionary.
Click the cursor on this new text in the new document.
Is the "Dont spell or grammar check..." activated for this word/sentence?
This setting could be activated within your Normal.dot template file.
See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/blankdocnotblank.htm which describes
how you can find and edit the Normal.dot file, to ensure that this setting is
deactivated.
As a last resort you could rename your dictionaries (Custom/Perso) as "OLD"
and copy over someone elses .dic files to see if the errors continue?
Come back with results of your efforts.

Please excuse me. I am operating windows xp with word 2007. This spelling
problem does not follow the applications across Office. It only happens in
word. Further, I created a new profile and the speller in the new word
application under that profile works right. Evidently I have a wrong setting
in my profile. I checked under Office Button – Proofing – and seem to have
the same boxes checked and marked. But the problem remains.
How does it manifest itself? If I type the following:

The grammar correction will capitalize the T is that, but the double aa and
ee will be accepted as correct.

Ah 2007.
As you may have seen elsewhere in this forum, proofing in 2007 seems to have
many problems. Searching this newsgroup and the Application Errors newsgroup
for Spelling/Proofing 2007 you will hit many problems and solutions.
Hopefully you will find one that fixes your problem.

Quick fix? Is there any way to keep Office on the PC, remove it from one
specific profile, then ad it back to that one profile? I know the error is
profile specific.

I apologize, but after a while of fighting such problems I just want to move
on. I don't get as excited about solving the problem as I once did. I set
up an alternate profile in XP and moved most of my files there. Now I have
to deal with getting my Outlook calendar dates moved/imported. But Word
works right!
