Hi all
I am currently co-authoring a book, and we are using Word 2007 for
this right now.
I have lots of sections, figures and tables in my chapters, and I'd
like to cross-reference them naturally. I have grown really tired of
clicking on the insert tab and then cross-reference and then doing my
stuff. So I was wondering; Is there no keyboard shortcut for this? I
ahve found the "Quick Access toolbar" and added the functionality
there, but still, I'd like a no-mouse solution.
Any help?
Thanks!

There is, technically speaking, a keyboard shortcut for every command on the
Ribbon. Some of them require so many keys as to be perhaps not worth the
trouble. The one for cross-reference is Alt, S, RF, which brings up the
dialog. If you know how to navigate that from the keyboard, you're home
free, or you can use the mouse from there.

Thank you for the very fast answer.
Actually I found out another way just after asking the question here
(blush...) and since I wasn't able to find anything online, I decided
to blog about it and post a link to the blog post here. Never figured
anyone would answer me this quickly My solution is about assigning
a whole new shortcut and not leveraging the existing.

You can, of course, assign a keyboard shortcut to any command in Word. A
possibly quicker way to get to the Customize Keyboard dialog is to click the
arrow at the end of the QAT and choose More Commands..., which opens the
Customize dialog, with the button leading to the Customize Keyboard dialog.

You can always create your own shortcut to the InsertCrossReference
command...
