For some mysterious the "Save As" options seem to have disappeared in my
Word 2000 installation, i.e. all I see under "Save as type:" is All
Files (*.*)

I'm afraid this problem still persists...
In case I didn't describe it clearly enough first time round, here is
another attempt.
The situation is that I haven't lost the "Save As" option/button, i.e.
it is there alright in the File menu, but in the Save As window that
comes up when I click the button all I see under "Save as type:" is the
option All Files (*.*), i.e. I don't see the usual menu offering txt,
rtf, html different versions of doc etc.

Look at what I just found: It works fine:
The Save As choice is under the Office Button on the top left (thats the one
that looks like the corporate logo with no words on it letting you know its a
button) (the Alt, F, A keyboard shortcut from prior versions still works in
Word 2007).
The Help is located under the blue question mark icon above the ribbon on
the right (F1 still works)

Please note that the original question was about Word 2000, not Word 2007.

What happens if you start in safe mode and use SaveAs? From Start, Run, type
in
winword /a
and press enter. Now try SaveAs.

Thanks, but the problem persists =-O
Perhaps I should have mentioned that the problem is unlikely to be
related to normal.dot, because I use the same normal.dot on two
different machines, and Save As works normally on the two machines.
In case it is relevant, the other two machines run XP whereas the
machine with the Save As problem runs Windows 2000.
Incidentally, Save As works OK in the other Office 2000 applications,
and it also works OK in OpenOffice.
Very odd...
Any other ideas?

The problem persists when you start in Safe Mode?
