Post subject: Public Folder Favorites read/unread information is wrong in
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>outlook>teamfolders (more info?)

I am running outlook 2003 and have SBS2003 and exchange 2003.
We have a few public folders and to get to the ones i use more often i right
click -> add to favorites.
This works fine, the folder and subfolders are in my favorites, if i add new
folders under all puclic folders it to is added to my favorites
automatically.

BUT...

Favorite public folders maintain read/unread information and display it in
blue next to the folder. (21) for example. It works fine for a while but
then as time goes on this number gets more and more wrong! One day i had 5
new unread emails in my favorite folder but the blue number said 14, i read
the 5 email and it said 9. I right click and go Mark all as read but
nothing happens. A few weeks later the number jumps to 21 even though the
folder is empty (except subfolders) or all the email inside are read!

Any information about this would be great, i have spent many many minutes
searching the web for a fix but this fault is not documented anywhere!

thanks

Brendon

When you open the Exchange system manager you can select the public
folder with the problem in "Folders".

Right click the folder and select properties to see the folders
properties. In the general tab you de-select the option "Maintain
per-user read and unread information for this folder". Apply these
settings and then select the item again.

You now have "reset" the folders counters for all users.

I am having the same problem with Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003. This
was a good idea but it didn't work for me....

Samething for us. 2 of our general input public folder are showing 2 or 3
unread messages but, even of you look at this folder using the "Show unread
message only", they do not appear. Tagging every message and using the "Mark
as read" feature does not work either. We have another public folder used for
outgoing mail that also have the same problem...
