Printing labels, column count disagrees

Hello.

I'm using Word 2003 and Avery 8160 label sheets to create lables. After
selecting 8160 labels and tabbing to "Details", the details for the labels
correctly says that the sheet is 3 columns wide by 10 rows high, but when I
click on the "New document" button and begin entering the address
information into each lable, tabbing to get from one label to the next, it
has 5, not 3, columns across and 10 rows high. What am I doing wrong, or am
I missing something?

If you look at the details of the labels again, you will note that the
horizontal pitch of the 8160 label is greater that the width of the label,
with the result that there is a space between each label in a row of labels

As labels in Word are just tables with fixed cell dimensions the space
between each label in a row is created by there being a narrow column
between each of the three columns of labels.

You should tab over that column if you are manually entering the details
into each label.

You should however consider using mailmerge to create your labels. The
propogate label setup utility in mail merge will skip the spacer columns.
