Hi Michael,
Most likely you are trying to specify both rows and columns as print titles
in a single area. You must set rows for the print titles at the top of each
page and you must specify columns for the print titles you want to see at
the left. In other words you should have something like this in the Rows to
repeat at top box $1:$3 and something like $A:$B in the Columns to repeat at
left. A reference like $A:$B,$1:$2 in either box will generate the above
error.
Cheers,

I was able to get rid of this error by removing my header and footer entries
for the worksheet. I'm not sure what was invalid about them, but once I did
this, I was able to print without getting the above referenced error message.

A colleague had the same problem and as the office worker with the most IT
knowledge I was drafted in to fix it. A quick web search suggested it was
something to do with print titles, but this document didn't have titles on
it. However, once I tried to print preview the document from the page setup
box it worked without trouble and would even print from the button.
Hope that's of some use to someone, sorry if not!

Post subject: Re: Printing [Login to view extended thread Info.] Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)
I'm experiencing a similar issue and could really use some help.
I have a reporting program that generates workbooks from our accounting
data. In the report definitions, I have set up a few named ranges and print
titles and a footer. When I generate the reports using a machine with any
older version of Microsoft Excel installed, the reports are great. When I
generate the reports using a machine with Excel 2007, I get the "Print titles
must be contiguous and complete rows or columns" error. Furthermore, when I
try to use an Add-In function that refers to the named ranges it cannot find
the ranges.
I have checked the reports for merged cells. None. I checked the Name
Manager and there are some odd results here. Instead of the range references
I had specified in the report definition (ie: $3:$3 or $A:$A) the ranges now
show invalid references (ie: $A$3:$IV$3 or $A$1:$A$65536). The range
references for my print titles are also goofy looking ($A$1:$IV$7 instead of
$1:$7).
Here's the odd part...if I delete my custom footers from the generated
reports, all of my goofy named ranges fix themselves! I've tried modifying
my report definition to remove the custom footer, but that does not fix the
problem. The named ranges still get loopy.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem, I just inserted another row above over the existing
table and copied all the column titles to this new row, removed the old row,
and i can print now. " It worked in my case, hopefully it will do in your
case as well".
