Post subject: Pivot Table Question
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>excel>datamap (more info?)

Hi,
I'm using a pivot table to sort some data. Here's what I'm doing:

Name Task Date Etc.

Joe Pickup 10/1
Joe Dropoff 11/1
Joe Pickup 11/2
Bill Pickup 10/1
Bill Dropoff 11/3
Amy Pickup 10/5

Here's the Pivot table:

Name Pickup Dropoff Etc.

Joe 2 1
Bill 1 1
Amy 1 0

What I'd like to do is have a separate worksheet that has a list of names
that are used to filter the pivot table data. I don't want to have to check
and uncheck the names from the pulldown menu in the pivot table. So if I had
a worksheet with only Joe's and Bill's names the pivot table wouldn't show
Amy's data (similar to a join in SQL). Is this possible?

Thanks,
Brandon

Although you are limited to one person at a time, can you not set the names
up as page fields?

Nick,

I'm trying to automate the report so that all you have to change is the
underlying data. I think I figured out a way... I used VLOOKUP on another
worksheet and just looked up the names I wanted out of the pivot table data.
It may not be that elegant but it seems to be working.
