Every now and then I get page breaks around every cell. What causes
that and how do I get rid of them?

Hi,

That's pretty hard to do. I could duplicate it by selecting a single cell
and choosing File, Print Area, Set Print Area, Yes.

Anyway to remove the page breaks choose Tools, Options, View, uncheck Page
breaks.

Thanks,

That option is grayed out. This appears to be some kind of bug with the
software. It just started on my notebook. I tried moving identical files over
from my desktop and when I open them, the page breaks are everywhere. I'm
going to try uninstalling and re-installing Excel. What a pain!

Withdrawn. This happened to me because Excel changed my default printer to a
fax device. Soooo, my advice would be to check the printer before pulling
your hair out like I did for several hours thinking I had a virus..... it's
always something simple that drives you nuts!!!!

I work heavily in Excel 2002 and this page break issue occurs often. I am
usually the guy here at work that has a propensity for occurrences of
Murphy's law and problems that others can not duplicate. Glad I am not the
only one this annoyance happens to.

I was surprised to see no body has ever identified this issue, or that is
the impression I got from some of the initial answers to the problem. I can
tell you it has been happening to me for years and I do not know why it
occurs but it not just a one off thing. It happened to me last night when I
was working. That's why i was investigating the subject today.

No real similarities I can identify that occur each time this has happened,
but in general the workbook is generally large and I have been manipulating a
lot of data. I will go to save a file and I get an error message stating
"print area is outside margins" and viola, every cell has a print area around
it.

To solve the problem I save the file and close down the program. I will
then restart Excel and come back in and the print area is back to normal.

Once it happens the first time, it happens repeatedly to the same file or
another file i will be using simultaneously. So I end up shutting down and
restarting repeatedly.

I will try the 'options' method that was identified here but normally I save
the file. I thought maybe it had something to do with a memory issue or
something along that line. It does not appear to be computer related because
I get upgraded often enough to more powerful and up to date hardware. It has
happened on all the systems I have run on.

I hope to start using the new Excel 2007 in the next months. I hope this is
not inherent to the new version. In spite of this general annoyance it is
still a great program overall.
