No mesage is received. The cusor appears that it is reacting and then nothing
occurs. After this happend the only way I can open Outlook is to reboot.
Other Office components appear to be not affected.

On looking at the events log I see two different evnts. The first is LoadPerf
and relates to an MOF file which could not be loaded, while the second is a
Userenv event which suggests that another service is running as a user
account and that Windows could not unload the user's profile.

Could this be in any way related to Norton 360?

Have you looked at the shortcut and verified it's a valid shortcut? Is
outlook open or closed when you try to open it from other programs (using
the File, Send to menu?). If outlook is closed, look in Tasks manager to
verify it is closed.

Dear Diane,
Taks manager indicates that it is closed and the shortcut appears to be
valid, afterall it works as soon as I restart the computer.

Are you scanning inbound and/or outbound email with 360? If so, absolutely,
it could be a problem.

I've never aloowed scanning of outbound email and I have now disabled inbound
on Norton 360. It has not changes anything. I have clicked on properties of
the shortcut on the toolbar and then find target. It takes me to Office 11
where all other MSOffice files are located. Outlook will not start from any
of these locations, but others (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) do.

At this stage the only way to guarantee that Outlook will operate all day is
to leave it open and minimised, otherwise I have to restart the computer.

Why would Norton 360 be a problem?

Tony

Sounds like you have some add-in that keeps Outlook open even when you
believe it's closed. Use Task Manager's Processes tab to see if
"OUTLOOK.EXE" is still a running process after you've closed it. Then see
if the applications listed here are in use:
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/close.asp . This isn't an exhaustive list
and troubleshooting techniques on that page can help you isolate the cause.

clues don't get any bigger that this one. Smile It's a sure sign outlook is not
exiting properly. you need to figure out why.
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/close.asp will help point you in the right
direction.
