Post subject: Outlook distribution lists Add to elertz Archived from groups: microsoft>public>outlook>contacts (more info?)
I have imported contacts from a Microsoft Access database to my outlook
contacts.
They all appear in my outlook contacts list - fine. However when I try to
create distribution lists all I can see are the old records in the 'select
members' box.
I have tried deleting all of my contacts and starting again, however I can
still only see records from my original contacts list (the ones keyed in
manually as opposed to imported) in fact I have now deleted all of the
manually keyed records and imported a clean list from access - once again
they all appear in outlook contacts
yet the deleted contacts are the only ones I see when I attempt to create a
new distribution list (NB they are not in the address book) Someone please
tell me I'm not doing something strupid - is there a bug in Outlook imported
contacts?
I am using Ms Outlook 2003 - SP3
and Ms Access professional 2003
I would be very grateful for an answer to this problem

Importing Contacts often fails to resolve the email address. Verify that
your electronic addresses are resolved and that you are displaying the
folder into which you imported these Contacts when you open the Outlook
Address Book Service.

Thanks for prompt repsonse Russ - I am certain that the folder with the
imported contacts is displayed - its open when I start the 'new distribution
list' option.
All of the new records appear under the advanced options but still the old
ones are the only records to choose from the select memebrs option not sure
what you mean when you say 'resolve' email adresses - sorry - this is very
frustrating!

Open one of the Contacts you imported and examine the email address field.
Then save that Contact and see if it then appears in your "Select Members"
dialog.

Russ
I opened a contact without an email address and keyed in a dummy email then
saved - this then appeared in 'select members' dialog box. I'm guilty of a
stupid error - of course only contacts that don't contain a null email record
appear for a distribution list, and i have a significant number of records
without an email! I was simply very aware of the reduced records and
imagined the details were wrong without thinking the process through!
I feel so foolish!
Thank you for your expertise and sorry I took up your valuable time
yours gratefully

Right. The Outlook Address Book presents only the electronic addresses.

I have a similar problem using Contacts, but how do you "verify your
electronic addresses are resolved and that you are displaying the > folder
into which you imported these Contacts when you open the Outlook."
