I know this is an old post but since it didn't help me I thought shering my
experience might help someone else.

I had the same problem and discovered that when I went to Review menu and
opened Set Language, "Do not check spelling or grammar" checkbox was checked.
I unchecked this box and then aplied Deffault button for selected language.
It is underlining grammar and spelling misstakes now.

[/quote]I am having the same problem, except my computer was formatted and Office 2003 was replaced with Office 2007. Originally, at the beginning, the spelling/grammar check worked fine, up until some time ago, it simply stopped checking spelling errors. What should I do now??

Do you happen to know what to do if you dont have the previous version? 2002?
I only have 2007, and i've tried reistalling it a million times and i still
can't get the "text marked do not check spelling and grammar" to turn off!
I've tried the office button, word options, proofing recommendation, but
nothing in there seemed effective....do you know how I can get the spell
check to work if you don't have office 2003??
PLEASE HELP! lol, thanks so much to everyone for their recommendations so far!
