Excel 2000 problem.

I've had this on two separate and different spreadsheets now. My Office 2000
installation is fully updated.

When I have complex filtering information on a spreadsheet, the file seems
to reach a point at which it can "take no more" and at that point I can no
navigate up or down the page - I'm stuck with the rows I can see. This is
true whether I use the page keys, or the mouse or simply try to use
down-arrow to take the cursor past the bottom of the page. Additionally,
there are spooky effects like the selection dashes not aligning correctly
with the cells, and cell borders becoming not being straight right down the
page.

One spreadsheet was using Debra Dalgleish's FastFilter, and I thought that
was the problem, but when I started a brand new spreadsheet and did Advanced
Filter manually, I eventually struck the same problem.

I have a 1.7GB Pentium-M processor and 512mb memory, so I don't think it's a
resource problem. It occurs whether there are heaps of other programs running
or if Excel is the only application after a reboot. There are only a couple
of thousand rows.

On the FastFilter spreadsheet I found that after using various filters
successfully for a while, If I took them out, then taking the last filter out
would cause the problem - put it back in and the problems disappear and the
spreadsheet behaves normally.

On the "manual" spreadsheet the problem appears when I add one element to a
"list" that forms part of a filter - i.e. three elements: problem; two
elements: no problem. The sheet also has ordinary filters with headings and
"formula" filters without headings.

Very annoying because I need all these filters (and more eventually)

Well, I "sort of" found an answer myself with further searching of a more
general kind: Seems it's a bug with the "Freeze Panes" feature.

See MS KnowledgeBase Article here:
http://www.google.com/search?q=microsoft+906309&ie=UTF-8

No fix though ... only a work-around (don't use freeze panes!) Funny that it
only happened (for me) at a certain point of filtering.
